Project Overview
This project involved the civils and structural design and build of all foundations for a 7.5MW gas peaking plant, including construction of an access road, security fencing, ducting, drainage and footpaths.
The project involved redeveloping a brownfield site within a busy industrial estate, where continuous access for neighbouring properties was crucial. Effective communication with all stakeholders played a pivotal role in the project’s success.
Technical Challenges
Sewer Diversion Works
Existing deep foul and storm sewers needed to be diverted as part of our contract prior to any excavation works for the generator foundations being undertaken. This required careful planning and coordination with utility providers to ensure uninterrupted service to adjacent properties.
Crane Pad Construction
We were responsible for the construction of crane pads for lifting of all generators and ancillary components. Due to the sloping nature of the site and the frequency of traffic, these works involved a large amount of aggregate to construct the pads in accordance with the temporary works design.
Much of this work had to be undertaken during night shifts to minimise disruption to the industrial estate operations.
Sustainable Practices
On completion of the lifting activities, the aggregate from the crane pads was reused on this site and on a neighbouring site of ours, meaning that there was zero waste to landfill. This approach demonstrates our commitment to sustainable construction practices and circular economy principles.
Safety Performance
We are pleased to report that the project was completed incident free, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to safe and eco-friendly practices. Our team maintained the highest standards of health and safety throughout the project duration, working in close coordination with all site stakeholders.
