Project Overview
Our works involved the civil and structural design and build of the reinforced concrete bases for the gas generators, radiators, oil tanks and transformers, as well as the construction of the DNO substation base. We also undertook fencing, kerbing, drainage, ducting (on site and off site) and surfacing works on this project.
This 7.5MW gas peaking plant provides fast-response generation to support the electricity grid at times of peak demand — part of a wider programme of Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) sites we have delivered across the South West.
Working on a Live Site
The project was carried out within the yard of a very busy haulage company, and careful planning had to be implemented to ensure there were no issues with deliveries and space on site.
Due to the volume of traffic movements on site, a strong health and safety presence was required to ensure that traffic management and pedestrian segregation was adhered to for the safety of all site users throughout the build.
Regular communication with the landowner, other site users and follow-on trades was key to delivering this project safely and without incident.
Key Achievements
- Full civil and structural design and build of all plant foundations
- Construction of the DNO substation base
- Delivered safely within a live, operational haulage yard
- Completed without incident despite continuous third-party traffic movements
