Project Overview
Our works involved the civil and structural design and build of all of the foundations for this 7.5MW gas peaking plant, including construction of an access road, acoustic fencing, security fencing, ducting, drainage and footpaths.
Brownfield Site, Careful Reuse
This was a brownfield site located to the rear of an operational business premises; the area had previously been used for the storage of waste materials.
We carried out a detailed survey prior to site establishment in order to classify the type and quantity of surplus materials we were likely to generate as part of the works, so that we could find a suitable and compliant point of re-use.
During the design phase, we also carried out trial pitting to accurately locate existing HV cables and ensure that the proposed development did not infringe on any easements.
Ground Conditions
Ground conditions were poor, and this site received piled foundations to a depth of approximately 18 metres. All works were undertaken safely and without incident whilst maintaining access for the neighbouring business at all times.
Working closely with our suppliers and holding regular meetings, we were able to plan and manage all deliveries and successfully avoid any delays — despite a prolonged section of roadworks and road closures being undertaken in the local area at the same time as our works.
Key Achievements
- Piled foundations to approximately 18 metres in poor ground
- Surplus brownfield material classified and compliantly reused
- HV cables and easements proven and protected
- Neighbouring business access maintained throughout
